PLEASE NOTE: EARLY CHILDHOOD COURSES ARE ONLINE

Non-Matriculated Courses for Early Childhood Extension

Students who are certified in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) can now take 6 credits in Early Childhood Education to extend their license to Birth – Grade 2, through the Individual Evaluation Pathway. The following courses meet this requirement:

  • SED 550 – Developmental Assessment of Young Children
    • Offered through the College of Saint Rose
  • EDUC 621A – Early Literacy 1
    • Offered through the College of Mount St. Vincent

Is this for Special Education as well?

No. This extension only gives you General Certification at the Early Childhood level. These two courses will not make you eligible for Special Education (students with disabilities) Certification.

However, SED 550 can be used for both the Early Childhood Special Education extension and the General Early Childhood Education extension. Early Childhood Special Education can be achieved by taking the following 4 courses: SED 550, SED 501, SED 517, SED 512. Please email Brian@citeprograms.com for questions.

As with all Individual Evaluation Pathway Courses, students should always contact your district office (Long Island/Westchester schools) or the UFT/NYCDOE Certification Office to verify that these courses work with your certification. Individual Evaluation Pathway certifications only work with valid, current certifications. In addition, state tests and additional workshop like DASA may be required if you have not applied for any certification since January 1st, 2014.
